Tromsø came alive during friday’s opening ceremony outside the City Hall. An excited crowd gathered at the pavillion and was treated to an imaginative and accomplished theatrical performance by KULTA, the Tromsø theatre company and a band of French musicians.
The parade began with entertaining figures peeking out from the windows of City Hall, waking up the flowers below which were played by children; the flowers came to life, and the parade was on! Many followed through Tromsø’s pretty streets and during an otherwise rainy day, the sun also made an appearance! KULTA’s Circus School met the parade in the streets and a very entertaining show was given by Monaco. After some initial caution many of Tromsø’s numerous tourists were also captivated by the parade, which continued on to the Cathedral and the Cultural Centre. Here, the Mayor of Tromsø, with Chairman of the Norwegian Theatre Council Svein J. Svennson, wished a warm welcome to Tromsø Dialog 2011 and declared the festival officially open!
The 2011 theme is DIALOGUE and our aim are to promote peace through the medium of theatre. The name of the festival is hence Tromsø DIALOG 2011.
We aim to initiate dialouges across borders and to keep the dialogue open: Together for theatre - together for peace!
