Reflections at ‘half time’

Half way through the festival, we sit in the foyer of the Culture House and reflect. It's full speed at the festival secretariat, but the tired staff still meet every request with a smile. The goal and theme of the festival was dialogue.

 - Have we managed it, Svein?

Yes - groups have followed up each other's performances enthusiastically, the festival tavern is busy and lively talk is everywhere. Outgoing president Paddy O'Dwyer’s concerns were inclusion, participation and political work. Newly elected President Merja Laaksovirta has stated that this work shall be continued and strengthened.

- Bread and Circus is the first symposium carried out in an international amateur context.  Christin is pleased that AITA/IATA will raise international cultural policy higher on its agenda.

We are extremely pleased – so too is Sweden's Mats Wenløf from ATR, who can’t praise the event highly enough!

Svein J. Svensson, Chairman of the Norwegian Theatre Council
Christin Sund, Project Manager

The 2011 theme is DIALOGUE and our aim are to promote peace through the medium of theatre. The name of the festival is hence Tromsø DIALOG 2011.

We aim to initiate dialouges across borders and to keep the dialogue open: Together for theatre - together for peace!
