Title: NEVĚSTA / The Bride
Playwright: Martin Františák
Year: 2009
Genre: Drama
Direction: Martin Františák
Composer: David Smečka

The play is based on Mrs. Anna Javorková’s diaries that the author found in Wallachia. The play is about two women known as ”the brides”.

In the border regions of Germany in the aftermath of the war, immigrants from other parts of the country try to make a new life for themselves. The two women in the story have no choice but to offer themselves to the men of the village in order to survive.

The lives of the people then, confront the lives of people today. Anna Javorková is dying and she is taken to the hospital. Her old suitors and their descendants want to destroy her old house to rid them of their guilt. Then Anna's daughter returns to the village to find her roots, but she is unaware that she is the child of one of the men and of what her presence might mean. The village splits into two camps: one strives to maintain the secrets of the past, secrets that threaten the Mayor's family, while the other wants to help Olga.

The 2011 theme is DIALOGUE and our aim are to promote peace through the medium of theatre. The name of the festival is hence Tromsø DIALOG 2011.

We aim to initiate dialouges across borders and to keep the dialogue open: Together for theatre - together for peace!
