Welcome to the 30th AITA/IATA World Congress in Tromsø, Norway
The official founding of AITA/IATA took place between January 18th-20th 1952. Almost a hundred delegates from twenty-four amateur theatre federations representing sixteen countries gathered together in Brussels, Belgium for the first Congress of AITA/IATA.
At this first congress the International Charter (the first Constitution) of AITA/IATA was signed by representatives of twenty two organisations stating the official foundation of the organization. At this first Congress it was agreed that English and French would be the two official languages of the Association.
The 3rd Congress in Monaco 1957 also hosted the first AITA/ IATA World Amateur Theatre Festival. At the 50th Anniversary of AITA/IATA the World Congress and Festival of Amateur Theatre is a biennial event taking place alternately between the Principality of Monaco and somewhere else in the World!
The world congress is the General Assembly of the International Amateur Theatre Association and is the associations highest decision – and policy-making body.
The General Assembly consist of:
- Full members with voting rights
- Affiliate members with voting rights
This is the second time Norway hosts the World Congress and Festival and we welcome you all to beautiful Tromsø – land of the midnightsun.
